Anyone who drives a vehicle with a combustion engine, requires motor oil. In our online shop, we offer a large selection of high-quality tyres at attractive prices. Our range includes motor oils for cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles, as well as oils that are tailored to specific engine types. We of course also carry products from leading motor oil brands such as Castrol, Liqui Moly, or Shell in our range.
What is motor oil for?
The most important function of a motor oil is the lubrication of the combustion engine. It minimises friction between the moving parts of the engine, thus reducing wear and increasing the lifespan of the unit. In addition, high-quality motor oils can optimise heat transport and the combustion process, and prevent the engine from overheating. Other tasks performed by the oil include cleaning the engine and protecting it against rust. In order to do all of this, high-quality motor oils are made from various base oils and performance-enhancing additives.
What types of motor oil are available?
Motor oils can be classified according to numerous different criteria. The difference between mineral-based and synthetic motor oils plays a particularly large role. While mineral-based motor oil originates from base oils made from petroleum distillates, synthetic motor oil is made exclusively from synthetic base oils. Partially synthetic motor oil is a mix of the two forms.
Synthetic oils may be slightly more expensive, but are generally of higher quality, as the manufacturers often enrich them with performance-enhancing additives during production. For motor vehicles, it was previously customary for motor oils to be classified as either summer or winter oils. Nowadays, however, it is practically only multi-purpose oils that are used, which can be used all year round. Fuel-efficient motor oils are also worth mentioning. These are particularly thin, and have certain additives that help to preserve fuel.
Which motor oil should you choose?
Not all motor oils are suitable for a specific vehicle. Among other differences, the oils differ in terms of their viscosity. Here the so-called SAE class specifies the viscosity of the respective oil. Engine and vehicle manufacturers of course know best which motor oil is best for the respective unit. A corresponding approval or specification is generally stated in the vehicle handbook, or on the packaging of the motor oil. For example, fuel-saving motor oils are not suitable for all engines. Whether you are looking for 0W-40 motor oil, 10W-60 oil, or 5W-30 motor oil for your vehicle, at rubbex.com you can be sure you are in the right place.
When should your change your motor oil?
Regardless of the quality of the motor oil used, an oil change will be required at some point or another. For at some point, depending on the oil consumption and the oil level, the motor oil will no longer be able to fulfil its full function. The changing times can be found in the vehicle's log book. If fixed intervals are stated here, the oil must be changed after a specific period of time or mileage – depending on which is reached first. In case of dynamic change intervals, the vehicle computer will calculate the optimal time for the oil change based on multiple determining factors.
