With the opening of a petrol station, the businessman Fritz Kortekamp founded DBV Würzburg GmbH on 23 May 1953, which was initially still called "Deutscher Brennstoffvertrieb". From 1977 onwards, things took a different course for the company when the mineral oil trader Hugo Bathon bought the company and a short time later the brothers Norbert and Andreas Bathon joined in.
Expansion of the business field
After the family business initially focused mainly on mineral oil operations, several other business fields developed over the years, which today make up the company's main business. The business field was initially extended to tyres and then, from 1994, to alloy wheels. In the beginning, the company limited itself to simply including alloy rims in its product range and trading them, before finally deciding to act as a manufacturer of alloy wheels itself due to the high demand. In 1997, the company finally started producing alloy wheels in DBV's own factory, after buying SRF (Südrad France) from the German Südrad. Due to the fact that DBV rims were already distinguished by their high quality and comparatively low price, the company now also produced rims for original equipment for passenger cars such as VW-Votex and Peugeot. Today, the production of the aluminium wheels runs with modern and DBV-owned manufacturing equipment mainly in factories in China and Malaysia, which are specialised in original vehicle equipment and work according to strict German standards. During production, all DBV alloy wheels are fully automatically checked for imbalance, x-rayed, checked for leaks and pre-balanced by a robot. Due to this, the favourable prices and the high quality of DBV rims can still be combined today.
In addition to the two main business fields of tyres and rims, oils and lubricants also continue to play a major role for DBV. The company also owns and operates its own lubricant bottling plant, which can process up to 30 tonnes of engine, transmission and hydraulic oils daily. DBV also stands for the very highest quality in this business field. The premium first refinery product produced in-house is sourced directly from large and well-known corporations who value DBV's quality assurance, reliability and high quality standards.
Until 2016, the company was also dedicated to the business field that made it big – petrol stations. DBV operated its own petrol station network, which was, however, discontinued when the business was taken over by the Alcar Group.
Rims assortment and models
The DBV wheel range exclusively includes wheels that have ABE (General Operating Permit) or ECE (Economic Commission of Europe). The numerous models are usually named after countries, regions, islands or cities – from A for Andorra to S for Samoa and V for Vienna. Particularly popular models are the DBV Bali, Malaya, Tahiti and Torino. The DBV Bali multi-spoke rim (8 spokes) creates a fresh look with its thin spokes and suits any vehicle. The 5-spoke DBV Malaya shines above all with its elevations on the individual spokes. With the DBV Tahiti, the drop centre makes the rim a particularly popular one. According to customers, one of the most beautiful rims in the range is the DBV Torino, which impresses points with its chic rotor or propeller look and its timeless design. All these models are available in sizes from 13 to 20 inches and in the colours grey, black and silver.
